Our Focus: Clean Water and the Funding Gap in the Water Sector
Clean drinking water and efficient water infrastructure are key challenges for the future. Yet today, still less than 2% of global investment in water comes from private capital. Grasshopper develops water projects and structures water investments that address exactly this gap: we mobilize private capital for centralized and decentralized water infrastructure projects, with a focus on drinking water – based on modern and innovative water technology solutions that have demonstrably delivered their “proof of technology” for large-scale water infrastructure projects and public drinking water supply.
Who we are: Specialists in Water Projects and Water Investments
For 17 years, we have worked exclusively in the water sector. We come from the project side, not just the investment side: with implementation experience, technical and operational know-how, an internationally grown network, and long-standing partnerships with technology providers, utilities, and institutions. This rare and specialized combination makes Grasshopper a provider of water investments that truly understands water projects – and makes them investable.
What we offer: Access to Investor-Ready Projects
Based on a project pipeline built up over many years with proven, standardized, and replicable water projects, and on a risk-mitigating concept developed by us, we enable private investors to gain direct exposure to technology-driven water projects. With clear revenue structures, professional structuring, limited investment periods, and measurable environmental and social impact.
Water - A New Asset Class: Why Water Belongs in the Portfolio
Climate change, urban growth and aging or non-existing water infrastructure make safe water the defining challenge of our time. Water is essential infrastructure and system-relevant. The water projects structured by Grasshopper provide private investors a professional access to a new and future-defining asset class.

Clean Water is a Human Right

The supply of clean water is one of the key challenges of the 21st century. Global shortages of clean water and rising per capita consumption are political and economical challenges the water sector is facing.
According to the "World Water Development Report" of the WHO, more than a billion people currently have to rely on contaminated water and almost half the world's population lives without sanitation. In fact, more than one billion people obtain their drinking water from polluted wells, springs, ponds, or rivers.
According to the Children's Fund of the United Nations and WHO each year about 1.8 million people die from diarrheal diseases, most of them children under five.
We never know the worth of water till the well is dry. Water is key - to every human, public health, climate resilence, thriving economies and long-term value creation.
